Giga UK?
There is a possibility that there could be a Tesla Giga UK and one in Mexico. Recent reports note that the UK government is looking for a 4 million square foot site that will be the location of a new production facility for Tesla. The search is being headed by the Department for International Trade (DIT) and the plot of land will be large enough for Tesla to house a Research and Development facility as well as a production factory.
“The government is working with industry to help make the UK the location of choice to develop world-class electric vehicle technologies. DIT is working closely with partners to scope out sites for new investment into electric vehicle research, development, and manufacturing across the UK,” a DIT spokesperson told Property Week.
Giga Mexico?
There are reports that the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, is in talks with Elon Musk regarding a Tesla plant there. Vallejo offered the state to be considered for a host for a new Tesla Gigafactory and says that both Musk and Tesla know about the favorable conditions for Tesla in Guanajuato.
The state already has Toyota, GM, Honda, and Mazda factories long with a Ford transmission plant and a VW engine plant. A Tesla representative in Mexico encouraged the governor to send a letter pointing out that the state has four suppliers already working with Tesla.
With three factories in the U.S. one in China, one being built in Germany and plans for a fourth on in the U.S., additional Tesla factories in the UK as well as Mexico would be ideal for Tesla to establish more foothold in North America and Europe. Everyone wants a piece of the Tesla pie and this is a great thing. It’s great not just for shareholders and our economy, but it’s great for customers as well as our planet. Tesla’s mission is to transition us from a dirty habit to a cleaner one.
