The Japanese electric vehicle market is comprised almost entirely of Japanese auto manufacturers (unsurprisingly), which makes the market an interesting contrast to free-for-all markets like the US. The Nissan LEAF has over the past few years more or less dominated the market. Though, the first-generation Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid (PHEV) had respectable sales as well — which makes the […]

Also published on CleanTechnica. See our Electric Car Sales page for a deeper look at US, European, and Chinese electric car sales. US electric car sales jumped approximately 68% in February 2017 vs February 2016. Fully electric car sales were up 74%, while plug-in hybrid sales were up 61%. For the first two months of the year, that puts […]
The Chinese market had 6,260 new EVs registered in January, far from the 15,275 units of January 2016, dragging down the plug-in market share (of new cars sold) to just 0.25% — far below the 1.45% of 2016. Considering the seasonality of the Chinese PEV market, where the first quarter is always the slowest selling (due to […]
The European EV market had some 19,000 registrations last month, up 31% year over year (YoY), with the Renault Zoe starting the year in the leadership position again. #1 Renault Zoe – With the ZE40 version finally arriving to selected markets, registrations were up 80% YoY to 2,602 units, jumping straight into the leadership in […]
US electric car sales continue to climb to new heights in 2017. Growing 59% year over year (YoY), approximately 12,000 electric cars were sold across the country in January, accounting for approximately 1% of US auto sales.
The European EV market had approximately 30,000 registrations last month, down 11% over the same month last year. This sales slip, however, had to do with the incentives-derived sales rush of the last quarter of 2015. Last month, though, the top spots were yet again influenced by the Dutch market sales peak: #1 VW Passat GTE – […]
We hear more about false news these days than in the past — unless you grew up with me. False news has always been around. I was raised by a father who ranted about “Madison Ave” controlling our lives. “Watch out what you read — make sure it’s true. Question what you hear. Avoid gossip, it leads to lies.” Now, we witness our head of state refusing to answer straightforward questions from reporters and just shouting back that they are “fake news” — a clever way of turning the story on its head after the focus had been on pro-Trump outlets and advisors peddling false news.
Also published on CleanTechnica and our Electric Car Sales page. The Chinese market had 44,874 new electric cars in December, far from the 60,000 expected by analysts, but still up 27% year over year (YoY) and far more than the electric car sales in the US and Europe. Overall, China’s plug-in market share rose to a record 1.45%, […]
Below is a list of the plug-in hybrid electric cars for sale in 2017 in the USA. This article will be updated as new electric cars arrive on the market, such as the coming BMW 530e, Kia Optima Plug-In Hybrid, Hyundai IONIQ Plug-In Hybrid, Karma Revero, and Cadillac CTS Plug-In. The first prices listed are base prices before the federal tax […]
The EV market as a whole saw 30% growth for 2016 (compared to 2016) and 51% for December 2016 (compared to December 2015), which would be great for normal cars but may seem a bit weak on the surface for those of us who know how fast EV sales should and could be growing. But remember that 2016 was more of a prep year than a breakout year. This year (2017) and next (2018) are likely to be the big breakout years, thanks to the real arrival of the Chevy Bolt and the expected arrival of the Tesla Model 3.
This article is also being published on CleanTechnica, the EV Sales blogspot, and our Electric Car Sales page. The European EV market had more than 18,500 registrations last month, 5% down over the same month last year. This sales slip has to do with the incentives-derived sales rush in the last quarter of 2015 in some […]
Major auto manufacturers are doing practically nothing to advertise the plug-in electric vehicles that they sell, whether in California (as compliance vehicles) or elsewhere, according to a new study commissioned by the Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management (NESCAUM).
This article is also being published on CleanTechnica, the EV Sales blogspot, and our Electric Car Sales page. The Chinese market had a record 43,441 new electric cars zooming the streets in November, up 36% over last October and 56% year over year (YoY), pulling the plug-in market share to a record 1.4%, above the […]
While skepticism is perhaps appropriate when dealing with the electric vehicle ambitions of Henrik Fisker, considering the way that earlier ventures have gone, the EMotion vehicle teased a number of times by the recently formed Fisker Inc seems pretty interesting.
Originally published on CleanTechnica. BMW cars with a plug, electric motor, and battery are now approximately 1 out of every 16 BMW USA passenger car sales (6.4% of such sales), based on November’s sales split. That includes sales from 3 fully electric and plug-in hybrid BMW models: the BMW i3, BMW i8, and BMW 330e. The BMW X5 […]

The European electric car market had more than 17,000 registrations last month, 1% down compared to October 2015. This sales slip surely has to do with the incentives-derived sales rush in the last quarter of 2015, so expect this […]
There were reports earlier this year that tech giant Apple was in discussions to possibly acquire the high-end UK car manufacturer McLaren. That went unconfirmed at the time. Now, following the recent forced removal of McLaren Technology Group head Ron Dennis (owing to a dispute over a Chinese takeover bid backed by Dennis, the rumors say), […]
