The Tesla Model S was recently included on Road and Track‘s new “51 Coolest Cars Of The Last 50 Years” list — along with many classics, such as the the 1967 Ferrari 330 P4, the 1967 Mazda Cosmo, the 1969 Lola T70, the 1965 Shelby Cobra 427, the Chrysler Wing Twins (lol), etc.
The article features a number of great photos of the cars in question if you’re feeling nostalgic (or are simply young and curious), so I recommend heading over there and taking a look if you have the time.
Amongst the newer cars on the list, the Tesla Model S was accompanied by the 1997 Thrust SSC (broke the sound barrier, goes 763 miles per hour), the 2005 Lotus Elise (the body should look a bit familiar…), and the 2014 BMW i8, amongst others. So, overall, pretty good company, I’d say. π
The caption used to describe the 2013 Telsa Model S featured on the list is: “Beautiful, fast, and the first practical EV (electric vehicle) from a company that hadn’t built a car, ever. Only amazing when you stop and think about it. Which you should.” (Editor’s note: Obviously, this is not quite true… But a good sales line regardless, I guess.)
The 1997 Thrust SSC is too amazing looking to not post a picture, so here you go. Enjoy.
(Tip of the hat here to “Patrick W” on the Tesla Motors Club forum for this.)
