New Lowest Roadworthy Car In The World Is An EV — Mirai

The newest Guinness world record holder for “Lowest Roadworthy Car in the World” is an electric vehicle. The Mirai (which means “future” in Japanese) rises just 45.2 cm (17.79 in) off the ground. It’s also got a Jetson-like look.

The EV runs on 6 main batteries and was the product of students and teachers of The Automobile Engineering Course of Okayama Sanyo High School in Asakuchi, Japan. They completed the car back on November 15, 2010.

Here’s more from Guinness World Records 2013 on the car:

The driving unit (motors and controlling components, including batteries) are from “Q-car”, produced by CQ motors (Japan). Switching console is from a motorbike.

The chassis (steel), body (ERP), suspension, steering system, lights (LED), seat and all other parts were made at the High School.

Previous projects on the course have included building an amphibious car and a huge glider plane.
