Georgia Power, an important regional energy company, recently revealed the addition of 32 new plug-in electric hybrid (PHEV) Chevy Volts to its fleet at a ceremony in Atlanta, according to recent reports.
This new fleet of Chevy Volts will be used by Georgia Power employees out on service calls, among other things. The main use will be, apparently, by the company’s energy efficiency technicians as they travel around doing home and/or business energy audits — thereby helping to reduce energy use and costs for the company’s customers.
The Chairman, President, and CEO of Georgia Power, Paul Bowers, was at the “ribbon-cutting” ceremony, and commented: “We are leading by example and demonstrating to our customers, and other Georgia businesses, that electric transportation works for all drivers. Through constructive regulation, and partnerships with organizations like the EV Club of the South, we are growing the EV market in Georgia and helping our customers reap the overwhelming benefits of driving electric.”
This recent move certainly isn’t the first time that the company has made overtures towards electric vehicles (EVs) — as the company actually launched a new electric transportation initiative just last year, one intended to increase public awareness of the technology + its benefits, as well as provide EV charger rebates for businesses + residential customers. It also offers special rates to those charging their EVs at home.
