Spin8 revealed its new roadmap to build out Italy’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure during the coming years at the recent IAA motor show in Frankfurt, Germany. The new roadmap — dubbed Carica Innovativa (“Recharge Italy!”) — outlines a means of increasing EV adoption in the country via an improved charging network.
Altogether, the plan calls for the installation of 57 new fast-charging stations, spaced all along the primary travel corridors, as well as 18 new fast-charging stations installed in various Italian cities.
“EV owners recharge either at home or at the workplace (if charging points are available),” stated Karin Fischer Spin8 CEO. “While range anxiety and the lack of a fast recharge infrastructure ‘on-the-go’ are the greatest reasons for the slow EV up-take. A fast recharge network in and in-between cities will allow for Electric Vehicles to become truly competitive and favour sustainable mobility and greater quality of life.”
An email recently sent to EV Obsession & CleanTechnica provides more:
Spin8’s strategy heads for the deployment of a universal (CCS, Chademo) fast charge technology network; allowing for an 80% recharging session in approximately 20/30 minutes. According to Spin8 this is the hygiene factor for the growth of EVs’ market share – when the fast network is complemented with a diffused presence of slow chargers – there where people have the time to charge ie working places; parking lots; residential.
The first phase of the roadmap (2015-2018) foresees the market rollout of the Spin8 IT platform and app in January 2016 for the end-to-end management of the services – “spot-recharge-drive-share” and the development plans for the deployment in 5 urban areas located in the Centre-Northern parts of Italy and the creation of the electric corridors serving those areas. (The infrastructuring of other territories will happen by opportunity according to the interest that will come from the market itself and the strategic partnerships that will be agreed.) The development of the Spin8 network is done through the installation, integration and aggregation of new and existing recharging points; by direct investment as well together with the multi-stakeholder network of its partners.
Interesting goals. An initiative to keep an eye on, in my opinion.
