It’s no secret — China’s automobile ownership is booming. The best the country can do to avert ecological catastrophe as a result of that is get more drivers into clean electric cars. Hybrid electric vehicles aren’t the ideal clean vehicle, but they’re better than nothing. So, with a little bit of pleasure (but not a lot), I share the news that Honda is looking to sell its Fit Hybrid and Insight in China. (It also started selling its CR-Z hybrid there in July).
Honda will also open a design studio in China and produce the vehicles in country. “In order to offer its hybrid models to Chinese customers at more affordable prices, Honda will begin preparation for local production of hybrid models in China in 2014,” the Japanese company announced.
