California Passes Milestone Of 200,000th Electric Vehicle Sold

The state of California, in great likelihood, surpassed the milestone of the 200,000th plug-in vehicle sold in the state earlier this month, according to recent reports.

While these reports are estimates — the count won’t be confirmed until April, or perhaps May, by the CNCDA — all signs point towards them being accurate. What that means is that California has been responsible for roughly half of all electric vehicle sales — both all-electrics (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) — to date.

Total US electric vehicle sales to date are somewhere near the 450,000 mark. The California market comprised around 54.5% of the total US EV market in 2015. At the end of 2015 about 191,650 electric vehicles had been sold in the market.
