Monaco, 20th July 2021
A global pioneer in marine e-mobility innovation, and host of the annual Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, Yacht Club de Monaco upgrades its dockside charging facilities with AQUA superPower’s 2nd generation rapid chargers to serve the growing electric boat and super yacht market. Also connected to AQUA’s growing marine fast charging network is neighbouring brand-new marina Cala del Forte in Ventimiglia with the installation of a fully marinised DC supercharger. Cala del Forte is a project owned and conceived by Monaco Port’s SMIP (Société Monégasque Internationale Portuaire) to expand the company, push cross border collaboration, and demonstrate its philosophy of sustainable port management and ecological responsibility.
In response to ever-increasing demand for berths and capacity in the ports of the Principality, Monaco Ports decided to create SMIP in 2016 and purchased the nearby Italian port of Cala del Forte in Ventimiglia. Designed to connect Monaco to Cala del Forte and Ventimiglia with state-of-the-art sustainable electric marine technology, AQUA superPower’s rapid chargers provide the fast, reliable and accessible service and infrastructure both commercial and leisure e-boat drivers need to move between the two locations. The charger upgrades in Monaco and new installation in Ventimiglia took place to coincide with the public inauguration of Cala del Forte in the presence of Prince Albert of Monaco on 2nd July 2021.
“Carving out a successful space for a new marina is based on what drives demand. Cala del Forte benefits from its association and connection with Monaco, whilst also wishing to create a reputation in its own right as the best high-end marina in terms of service, technology, innovation, and sustainability.” explains Marco Cornacchia, Port Director of Cala del Forte – Ventimiglia. “Electrification is certain to come to boating in the coming years, just as it has come to other forms of transport, and we see working with AQUA superPower as future-proofing in terms of market demand and required infrastructure.”
“The new installation in Cala del Forte as the new high-tech gateway location connecting the Italian Riviera with the Côte d’Azur puts Ventimiglia firmly on the map.” says Alex Bamberg, CEO of AQUA superPower. “We are proud AQUA’s network technology was chosen as part of the marine e-mobility infra-structure servicing both Cala del Forte and Monaco in support of SMIP’s goals of sustainable port management and ecological responsibility.”
AQUA superPower already supports marinas, boat builders and boat owners in the drive to bring electric power to the water and reduce the impact of boating on our marine ecosystems. The company’s fully funded business model means it will own and operate the connected AQUA network of rapid smart chargers, using their own cloud-based back-office system providing secure access to a range of user functionalities. Forward thinking marina owners and port operators are therefore incentivised to make the switch to electric power as part of their decarbonisation efforts.
AQUA are the first company to design and install a marine fast charging network. Its high caliber team brings with them an unrivalled track record in electric charging infrastructure in the EV sector. The Aqua network will be accessible to marine users via the AQUA secure app or RFID card. The app will enable users to view a map showing charger options and offering navigational aids to guide them to their chosen location. Chargers on the network will provide reliable and rapid 25kW-150kW DC charging for both leisure and commercial boats. For more information, visit www.aqua-superpower.com.
