The 2016 Nikola Tesla EV Rally in Croatia is fast approaching — with the event slated to begin on June 1st and run through June 5th. The >1000-kilometer rally route will include stops in 12 cities — Poreč, Rovinj, Pula, Labin, Opatija, Starigrad Paklenica, Zadar, Šibenik, Split, Smiljan, Plitvice Lakes, Karlovac, and Zagreb.
The Los Angeles Times has previously described the annual event as the most beautiful rally of electric vehicles in world — largely owing to the beautiful landscape of the region. The route includes travel through 5 national parks, and stops at various historically important locations, including the birthplace of Nikola Tesla.
Here are some further details from a recent email sent to CleanTechnica and EV Obsession:
We are connecting the most beautiful and significant locations in Croatia with e-mobility, promoting sustainable energy, organically grown food, and setting infrastructure for electric cars. Organizers of this Rally invented a smart solar/wind charging system with energy storage, and built over 50% of all charging stations in Croatia. The Rally is international, participants are from all Europe and USA, mostly diplomatic dignitaries, entrepreneurs, globetrotters, green tech leaders, and inventors. In one world; smart people.
…2016 Nikola Tesla EV Rally will feature ZEV vehicles such as the fastest hypercar in the world, which is 100% Electric — Rimac Automobili Concept_One, as well as Greyp electric bikes (that could pull over 60 mph :), with Mate Rimac bringing in several cars which you could try as well. We are also working on bringing a Formula E car for demonstration runs in several locations, Loox — 3-seat luxury city car (250 mile range) as well as numerous Tesla models from throughout Europe.

Optional:

— Pula-Fažana: leave the vehicles and go on a boat tour to Brijuni National Park — lunch and sightseeing (more info about Brijuni on: http://www.np-brijuni.hr/en/)

— Note: Tickets for ferry boat, entrance at Pula Arena and National Park, and lunch are not included in “Accommodation package” and will be charged at the site

*Tesla drivers can choose to go straight to Zagreb from Split (not necessary to sleep in Plitvice) due to available range of their vehicles.
