GM awarded the company Delta Electronics with its first ever “Supplier Innovation Award” at the recent General Motors 24th annual Supplier of the Year awards ceremony in Detroit, according to an email sent to EVObsession and CleanTechnica.
Delta Electronics was chosen as the winner of the new award owing to its 3.6 kilowatt Gen 2 On Board Charger Module (OBCM) supplied for use in the Chevy Volt. The new OBCM features a “leading power conversion efficiency of up to 96.5%, excellent reliability, and a compact size that is 40% smaller and 20% lighter than the previous generation of Delta’s on-board charger.”
As a result of all of this, Delta Electronics’ new 3.6 kilowatt Gen 2 OBCM is a direct and notable contributor to the new Volt’s improved miles-per-gallon-equivalent (MPGe) rating.
“Innovation is a key focus at Delta and we are honored that our ability to create advanced solutions has been recognized by our partner, General Motors,” stated Mark Ko, Vice Chairman of Delta Electronics. “With more than 40 years of expertise in power conversion and management technologies, Delta is leading technological innovation for automotive electronics and EV charging applications. We lend continued support to our customers and are excited to develop the next generation of electric vehicle solutions.”
“Delta’s Gen 2 On Board Charger Module is a cutting-edge product that sets a new milestone in the industry. It achieves a leading energy conversion efficiency up to 95.8% at full load at 3.6 kW and the peak efficiency at some certain load condition could be as high as 96.5%. When compared to the previous generation of On Board Charger Module, it achieves 40% smaller in size, 20% lighter in weight and 300W higher in power output. In addition, the Gen 2 On Board Charger Module can work at higher coolant temperature up to 167oF without power degradation,” stated James Tang, General Manager of Embedded Power Solution Business Group for Delta Electronics.
In addition to Delta Electronics, GM recognized 110 other suppliers from 17 different countries at the awards event.
