All electromobility related activities undertaken by the German technology firm ZF Group will begin operating as part of a newly created E-Mobility division starting in 2016, according to recent reports.
The new E-Mobility division will be based out of the company’s Schweinfurt, Germany, location. The division will comprise one of 6 divisions at the company (as of the beginning of 2016) — the other 5 divisions being: Car Powertrain Technology, Car Chassis Technology, Commercial Vehicle Technology, Industrial Technology, and the Active & Passive Safety Technology division. The last division was created recently to comprise the business activities of the newly acquired automotive supplier TRW.
The CEO of ZF Group, Stefan Sommer, commented: “By combining all activities associated with the electrification of cars and commercial vehicles under one roof, we are acknowledging the enormous importance of these advanced technologies, which are already shaping the future. Electromobility is coming – and in view of current controversies over car emissions, perhaps even sooner than we first thought.”

Previously, all activities associated with the growth business of electromobility were distributed across multiple organizational units. Now all of them have been consolidated in the corporate E-Mobility division. The company’s existing Electronic Systems and Electric Drive Technology business units will form the core of the new E-Mobility division. They will be joined by the E-Mobility Project House, which will bring together electromobility projects from across the entire company.
The Schweinfurt, Germany, location will now be home to the E-Mobility division as well as the company’s lightweight design activities.
