Thanks to an early release by General Motors, EV enthusiasts in California have another electric vehicle to consider. The 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV is now available at several dealerships across California, and the new EVs are working their way into Oregon and will soon be on the East Coast, as well.
The Chevy Spark EV was expected to be released by the end of summer, but it seems GM just couldn’t wait any longer to get its latest EV to market. The Spark EV is available for purchase for around $27,495 MSRP depending on options (this does not including rebates).
When the tax credit is factored in, you can purchase the car for as low as $19,995, a very reasonable price. GM is also offering a lease option on the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV. You can lease the car for $199 for a three-year lease with $999 down at signing.
The Spark EV is rated by the EPA at 82 miles of range on a single charge, which meets most drivers’ demands for normal day-to-day commuting. The efficiency rating comes in at 119 MPGe, which set’s a record high in its class, beating all other comparable EV’s on the market.
Here are a few specs for those who like to see the numbers:

On Chevrolet’s website, the company does a good job of summing up the cool aspects of this newest addition to the Chevy family. Here is what the Chevrolet Spark EV website says :
“Be electric in the all-new 2014 Spark EV. Put gas stations in your rearview mirror, live outside the boundaries of bus schedules and finally explore the world beyond the last train stop while enjoying the superior electric range offered by Spark EV. Drive gas and tail pipe emissions-free with instant power and surprising performance. Brace yourself for the thrill of 400 ft.-lb. of torque. So cool! Just wish these manufacturers wouldn’t take up prime real estate with the shifter. Tesla (Mercedes) really got that one right!
