You may have not heard of Nikola Motor Company yet, the company only unstealthed itself fairly recently. The company has revealed two semi-trucks to date — the plug-in natural gas–electric hybrid Nikola One and the off-road Nikola Zero UTV.
Following the opening of pre-orders for the Nikola One semi-truck ($1500 a pop, fully refundable) last month, the company has managed to bring in $2.3 billion in preorders so far, according to the company’s CEO, Trevor Milton.
Incredible. 2.3 billion dollars in pre-orders with deposits in one month. Press release going out. Let's change the world @elonmusk

To be clearer here, the company apparently received more than 7,000 pre-orders — which equates to around $10.5 million in reservation funds, and around $2.3 billion in sales if all of the reservations go through.
“Our technology is 10–15 years ahead of any other OEM in fuel efficiencies, MPG and emissions. We are the only OEM to have a near zero emission truck and still outperform diesel trucks running at 80,000 pounds. To have over 7,000 reservations totaling more than 2.3 billion dollars, with five months remaining until our unveiling ceremony, is unprecedented,” stated Milton.
“We believe we will pass the current market leaders like Daimler, PACCAR, Volvo and Navistar in sales orders within the next 12-24 months. Just imagine the orders that will come in once we begin taking dealer applications. We have shown other OEMs and their shareholders why they should be nervous about Nikola Motor Company. Some of the top class 8 dealerships in America have reached out and are willing to either add our brand or move away from their existing brands,” he continued.
Well, we’ll have to wait and see on that count. Certainly an interesting-sounding situation, though….
The company is currently planning to reveal a working prototype of the semi-truck in Utah on December 2, 2016.
Following the earlier completion of a seed round of funding, the company is now working on a $300 million A round, with an expectation of completion by December. More information on the company can be found here.
Fantastic news!!
Yeah! This deserves a lot of love, but since it’s large trucks, I don’t think it’ll get much. 😛

Re: Self Driving Vehicles
These types of vehicles will never work and will not be possibly function on the normal city/any streets. They show a vehicle driving on a parking lot, and on a sunny day. Nobody is mentioning these types of problems.
Let’s say the vehicle is driving on city streets the traffic lights are not working, heavy rain day or night, heavy snow that covers the whole vehicle and electronics, overnight parking and the vehicle is covered with ice and snow, mud, than the vehicles outside electronics have no way of knowing what to do. Does the vehicle will not function and is totally useless.
Everybody who likes to drive a vehicle must have a driver’s license in all states where the person lives.
Must have vehicle insurance.
If a vehicle company wants to sell a self driving vehicle the company must supply the vehicle insurance at the time of the sale to the consumer’s.
The vehicle company must apply and have a driver’s license for every state in the USA.
Why all this?
As of today the owner of a vehicle does not need a driver’s license only insurance.
Once the vehicle company is electronically driving the vehicle from where ever, all liabilities are with the vehicle manufacturer. I very strongly believe the vehicle companies will and cannot do this.

This is not a plug-in vehicle. This is a natural gas vehicle, that uses a turbine to drive an electric generator that runs the electric drive motors. The Nikola company, a company invested in and run by natural gas company executives, expressly says it does not have plug-in capability to charge any of the batteries. Of course, re-gen on downhills will make it a more efficient fossil fuel powered vehicle, but the calling it a “P”HEV truck is misleading. This is basically a natural-gas powered prius.
