Fastned Opens 50th Fast-Charging Station Along Highway System In The Netherlands

The electric vehicle charging station company Fastned recently opened its 50th charging station along the Dutch highway system, according to an email sent recently to EVObsession.

The milestone brings the company’s goal of a national electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging network considerably closer — as the network is now built out enough that travel throughout most of the Netherlands is now possible (even with the relatively limited range of most current EVs). The company has plans to expand throughout much of the rest of Europe as well.

The new, 50th EV charging station was officially opened by the Former Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, and alderman Derk Alssema of the municipality Goes in Zeeland, according to the recent email.

Michiel Langezaal, CEO of Fastned, stated: “We are the first player that builds a network fast-charging stations which are powered by 100% renewable energy at high traffic locations along the highway. This makes the Netherlands one of the leaders in the field of electric vehicles. And this is just the beginning. In the Netherlands, we will build a network of 200 stations along the highway and we also work on stations in and around major cities. The next step is to expand the network to the rest of Europe.”

The Former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Jan Peter Balkenende, commented as well: “It is great that this network of fast-charging stations is being built; with the advent of this charging infrastructure the electric car will be an interesting option for many within a few years. Fastned, for that matter, is the starter of the sustainable mobility.”
