The METRO — Cenntro Automotive’s New All-Electric Utility Vehicle

Those of us who have been waiting patiently for Nissan to go ahead and release the e-NV200 electric van in the US market (and have begun to get tired of waiting) may want to go ahead and take a look at a new all-electric compact utility vehicle from Cenntro Automotive, going by what’s been revealed so far.

The new model, known as the “METRO”, is a fair bit different than the Nissan e-NV200 with regard to specs but could likely meet the needs of many prospective buyers. The model is being showcased over the next few days at the Orange County International Auto Show in Anaheim, California.

Interestingly, the model is reportedly the first electric utility vehicle set up for compatibility with a modular concept — allowing for the changeout of various components, depending upon what’s wanted. The METRO is also apparently the first vehicle of its class to be manufactured right here in the US — in Sparks, Nevada, to be exact.

A new press release provides more:

Cenntro has developed and integrated its powertrain, Cenntro Power for improved performance, weight balance and handling. The METRO can achieve a range of up to 50 miles, speed of up to 25 mph, an MPGe of 209, up to 6.2 M/Kwh, payload capacity of 1,400 pounds, and a payload ratio at 75% (payload over curb weight). The vehicle’s efficient design puts less stress on the lead-acid battery, which extends battery life and travel distance.

Cenntro’s proprietary design achieves high efficiency with low production costs, allowing it to be sold at the best price in its class. It is also designed to have minimal maintenance and a long life.

“The METRO is an extremely versatile vehicle. It can be configured for various applications such as maintenance, delivery, hauling, and transportation for many different industries including warehouse, agriculture, landscape, airports and urban operations,” stated Peter Wang, CEO of Cenntro Automotive. “The METRO offers our customers maximum flexibility in terms of range, design and purpose. Combined with the affordable price and low cost of ownership, it delivers a great value.”
