Elon Musk and the Tesla Model S have changed pretty much everything we know about electric cars, though we’re still a long ways away from mass adoption of EVs. There are growing pains and lessons to be learned along the way, especially for any sucker foolish enough to buy this Tesla Model X Exhaust System.
Yup, you read that right, an exhaust system for an electric SUV that isn’t even on sale yet! Not only that, but Green Car Reports that parts site CARiD.com lets you order exhaust tips and silences for your Model X exhaust system too. Whoever entered the data to the website either didn’t double check their work, or doesn’t know that electric cars lack any sort of exhaust system whatsoever.
It’s one of the many benefits of owning an electric car; almost no road noise, lower fueling costs, and of course a total lack of emissions. Alas, the site also offers similar parts for the Nissan LEAF and Model S, which will only serve to sow confusion amongst the car illiterate. The modifications for electric cars are mostly limited to body kits, all of which lack the necessary cutout for an exhaust pipe…by design.
However, this highlights another benefit of electric cars. Eventually, those obnoxious exhaust systems on the back of every Honda Civic will fade into a distant memory. Perhaps hipsters of the future will attach fake exhaust tips to the rear of their electric cars for the irony factor.
