Strange Story Involving Model S Third-Row Trunk Seats & The Cops

Those reading this may already be aware of the fact that there’s an optional third-row trunk seat available for the Tesla Model S. While the option does perhaps seem a bit curious to some people, presumably, most people aren’t going to get the cops called on them for making use of it — as apparently happened recently with a couple and their child (who was placed in that third-row seat).

The incident — which happened on October 30th — involved onlookers observing a man placing a child in the trunk of his Tesla Model S, and then the onlookers subsequently calling the cops on the him. The cops then traced the car and confronted the man about the incident as he pulled into his driveway.

While I can’t exactly blame the onlookers for calling the cops (having not seen the situation as it happened), the situation does sound quite strange. Why make the assumption? I guess because it’s the trunk.

Here’s more via Yahoo News:

On October 30, a man grabs a child and puts her in the trunk of his Tesla Model S. He then proceeds to drive off. Onlookers call the cops, who trace the car and confront the man as he returns home. They ask to see in his trunk, and sure enough, there sits a young girl possibly around the age of 5.

The child was safely strapped into that rear-facing seat, and calmly climbed out clinging to what appears to be her blanket. Her father and mother stand in their driveway, somewhat in shock. Henry Wettstein posted the video of the incident to YouTube, apparently captured from a home security camera. We see the police approaching in a friendly manner, laughing the incident off, saying, “There’s seats in here? Nice! I like that.”

Has anyone else gotten any strange looks (or the cops calling on them) when using the third-row seating?
