Groupe Renault Acquires PVI (Specialist In Commercial Vehicle Electrification Conversions)

The French commercial vehicle electrification conversion specialist PVI (Power Vehicle Innovation) has been acquired by Groupe Renault.

To be more clear on the matter, PVI specializes in the conversion of light-duty commercial vehicles to natural gas use as well as to electrification, not simply electrification.

As one would expect, the acquisition is intended to help Groupe Renault’s Light Commercial Vehicle business expand more rapidly than would otherwise be possible, according to those involved.

“We are very pleased to welcome PVI’s team specialising in electric conversions to Groupe Renault,” stated Ashwani Gupta, SVP, LCV Division. “This acquisition is part of the Group’s strategy to develop its business by proposing a complete range of electric LCVs coupled with connected services. As the number one European manufacturer of electric LCVs, this is a unique opportunity for our teams to work on the next generation of this type of car. Together we will continue to innovate to ensure increasing proximity with our business customers while addressing their every need.”

press release from Renault provides more: “This acquisition also includes Escal, a subsidiary in which PVI has a 95% stake. Escal specialises in the distribution, installation, and maintenance of security systems for lifting vehicles. Escal itself manages PVI’s service, maintenance and mechanical integration activities. Both PVI and Escal, with a combined workforce of 93 employees, are attached to the Groupe Renault’s LCV Division.”

Notably, Groupe Renault and PVI have previously collaborated — on the newly unveiled Renault Master ZE that we reported on a few weeks ago. The Renault Master ZE — which is a larger, more substantial offering than Renault’s other electric van, the Kangoo ZE — is slated to be released in Europe before the end of the year.
