Cleantech Talk #6: Apple Electric Car, Tesla Model 3, & BYD Gigafactories

Also published on CleanTechnica & GAS2.

Chris and I had a lot of fun this week running down four hot electric car stories. We had some really interesting updates regarding the Apple electric car and Tesla Model 3 to play with, as well as a huge one from BYD — plans for battery gigafactories that will together essentially match Tesla & Panasonic’s own gigafactory. We also jumped a bit further into BYD’s cars, potential, and latest US news.

Hey. Great talk!!! The water vapor comment from hydrogen cars blew my mind. Very interesting point! Anyway, I wanted to disagree with you about what will push people over the edge to go EV. I think that the safety and (highway) self-driving features being rolled out are huge conveniences that people will want. I want to see what happens this summer when they push that self-driving feature live. I’m guessing a whole lot of free advertising! While many cannot afford a luxury car, if the ~35K models (model 3 or chevy bolt) have these features, I predict big sales!

Just a random thought came into my head, should cars with self driving features have higher Fuel Efficiency standards? That may make sense since they will be driven a whole lot more!

    Keep it up guys!
