Solar Impulse Pilot Talks With UN Secretary-General During Flight (Video)

Originally published on CleanTechnica.

We’ve covered the pioneering around-the-world-in-a-solar-airplane flight currently underway by the team at Solar Impulse quite a lot here at CleanTechnica. I suppose more than a few observers of the Solar Impulse flight have wondered what exactly the pilots spend all of that time up there doing.

While most of that time is no doubt spent on essentials to the success of the flight (including meditation, yoga, and self-hypnosis), there’s also apparently enough extra time to perform some non-essential activities as well… Such as to conduct an in-flight interview with the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon (who was at the time at the UN headquarters in New York City, New York). Here’s the video of the interview (for those interested):

Here’s a bit of background via an email sent recently to CleanTechnica: “Since COP21 we have been willing to be part during the signing ceremony of COP21 taking place today at the United Nations. We hope that flying day and night without fuel during Earth Day was the best way make sure our common values and message was well shared. Next step is now for Bertrand Piccard to complete this leg successfully in Mountain View, California. We still have 28 hours to fly!”

More on information on that flight-leg can be found here.
